Ladies & Gentlemen… The Yale Whiffenpoofs of 2007!

Wow…o wow…o man…o wow!!!!!!!!!!
So tonight my parents & attended the 9th annual Yale Whiffenpoof concert at the Albany Municipal Auditorium. As usual…they were fantastic!
For those of you who were lost at the word Whiffenpoof…I do not wish to express on this cheerful blog my sympathies for your uncultured soul! However, I have provided a link to their website…
so get to linking & especially read the history section! (go!!!…you can come back when you are better informed!)
*The Yale Whiffenpoofs*
Okay…now that you are educated in all things Whiff, I will tell you about the awing experience that is a Whiffenpoof concert.
For starters…this is my 5th concert here in Albany & the thing that continues to amaze me is that while there is an entirely new group of singers every year, this nearly century old acapella ensemble seems almost the exact same at each concert! Granted, each year there is a certain personality of the group…nevertheless, the time honored Yale traditions are well displayed in these 14 extremely talented men. The other two things that stun me about the group is, one, the diversity of majors. These guys are in school for biology, physics, global communications, history…etc. and yet they could all very easily have a career in singing!!!! The other thing that astonishes me is the groups placement of their vocal parts…they put 1st tenors right next to the basses! If you were unable to attend the concert…I’m sorry that you missed such a treat.
However, I would be delighted to share my CD from last years group with you!!!
My favorite piece from the evening continues to be for the 3rd year now, “Down by the Sally Gardens.” This is a traditional Irish tune which was arranged by a whiffenpoof in 1986…it brings tears to my eyes!!! So…in conclusion, I’m on a musical high…so…bye-now!

They better be absolutely SMASHING in order to get away with a name like Wiffenpoof. That’s the stupidest name I’ve ever heard.
I think I’ll start a singing group. And we’ll call ourselves the Puffyloves. Or the Poopootrain. Or the Whiffwhazits…..or…
